A great BIG thank you to everyone who participated in
“Looking Good is Contagious!” Temple Sholom’s Renaissance Project
The success of our project was possible only because of the support we received from the members and friends of Tempe Sholom.
On Friday, August 8th, Nancy Isseks and Carolyn Richman gave a power point presentation, chronicling the project form beginning to end, to the Renaissance judges at the Cablevision building. (The judges were horticultural specialists from out of the area). There will be a copy of the presentation in the lobby of the Temple so you can see for yourselves, the wonderful level of participation we had.
On Sunday, August 10th, the judges came to the Temple to see first hand what we had done. They asked questions about the decision making process that led up to the final landscaping design and wanted details of the community support we received.
On Monday, August 11th, a group from the Temple attended the awards ceremony at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts to show their support for the project. The Temple received a completion grant of $250, and a Third Place Prize in Category “ A” of $1,000. We appreciated the cheers and whistles when our prize was announced!
We would especially like to thank: * The Co-presidents and Board of the Temple * Rabbi Medwin * All of members who gave so generously of their time for planning and planting, (plus a healthy dose of encouragement and moral support) * Our planting crew * Our watering crew * Our temple youth * Contributors to the fundraiser * Teri Gottlieb for spearheading the drainage repairs and building paint job * Beth Leidner for her work on the garden plaque * Mary Jane Harris, graphic design * Sylvia Brafman, administrative help * The Prime Timers for their donation of the 2 large planters for the Temple entrance * Daytop, Swan Lake * Cornell Coooperative Extension * Stephanie Millet Brown * Sullivan Renaissance and the Gerry Foundation
We would also like to thank the following local businesses for their support, and would encourage our members to patronize them whenever possible. * Agway, Monticello & Liberty * Catskill Harvest Market, Liberty * Diamond Graphix-Signs, Liberty * Hillside Greenhouses, Liberty * Home Depot * John’s Handyman Service, Callicoon * Kristt Company, Monticello * Monticello Bagel Bakery * Monticello Greenhouse * Trading Post, Liberty, Monticello & Rock Hill
Again, thank you to all who helped to make this project a success.
We hope you enjoy the new look at the Temple’s entrance.
Nancy Isseks & Carolyn Richman
